I was truly disheartened to read in a July 17 Argus Leader story that Lincoln County farmers might take advantage of the Rock Island Clean Line by leasing their property for wind turbines. My family farms in Illinois and has done so for 150 years. The Rock Island Clean Line intends to cut across our land, establishing a permanent barrier between our farming operation and preventing us from dusting.
I am writing to Lincoln County landowners and public officials, including Beresford Mayor Jim Fedderson. I urge you to not lease your land for wind turbines. I urge you to reject any wind farm that will use the Rock Island Clean Line until a route alongside Interstate 80 is used or the line is buried. If enough of you help fellow farmers out at this time of distress, our nightmare could end.
