Plans have been lodged for a windfarm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Limavady.
ARC NI 1 Ltd has submitted a planning application for 21 wind turbines of 3.3 MW output each on Windy Hill Road near Limavady, its second planned wind farm.
According to drawings submitted to the Department, masts will range over four kilometres of high ground from Burren More above Downhill in the north to Altikeeragh in the south.
Planners have requested a full environmental evaluation of the development because of its “scale” and “sensitive location”.
SDLP Colr. Michael Coyle said “while his party agrees with renewable energy the time has come to look at a number of large windfarms appearing in sensitive areas, such as AONB in Binevenagh.”
One local resident who contacted the ‘Journal’ said: “I think it’s a disgrace. How many wind farms does this area have to absorb?”
