Plans lodged for new wind farm in Tomatin area

RWE npower renewables (RWE NRL) has submitted a planning application to Highland Council for a wind farm with up to 20 turbines and an installed capacity of up to 50 megawatts (MW).
The proposed Glen Kyllachy Wind Farm, previously known as Kyllachy Wind Farm, is located on land approximately 4.5km west of Tomatin, adjacent to the operational Farr Wind Farm.
Keris McLeod, the RWE NRL project developer said: “This site was identified as a suitable location for a wind farm for several reasons, including high wind speeds, distance from residential properties and the fact that it is outside any designated sites of nature and landscape conservation.
“The layout has been carefully designed to limit visibility of the proposed turbines relative to the visibility of the existing Farr Wind Farm. “Additionally, the ease of direct access from the A9 for construction traffic will minimise any potential for disruption locally during construction.
“With the potential of producing up to 50MW of electricity, Glen Kyllachy Wind Farm would be capable of supplying clean, green electricity to the equivalent of up to 27,000 homes in Scotland each year, enabling RWE NRL to help the Scottish Government meet its target of 100% energy from renewables by 2020.”
