Wind turbine proposal too big

Trempealeau County residents, it’s time to pay attention. The process is under way to regulate the installation of some giant wind turbines in the county. Once this has passed and the wind turbines are under construction, it will be too late to take notice.

The beautiful ridgetops of the French Creek area may be the first to be disfigured. If you like the beauty of your area the way it is now, call your county representative and tell them you would like them to do what they can to stop this.

We should explore ways of developing wind power in the county (on a smaller scale) that would actually benefit the majority of the residents. What is about to be crammed down our throats would only benefit the few landowners who are willing to trade the beauty of our county for monetary gain.

There is the potential for multiple units at various points in the county. These are huge, as much as 500 feet high with a wingspan of more than 400 feet. A football field is 300 feet. According to Riverland Energy, they will not have any potential to lower our electric bills. They won’t make our air any cleaner. Don’t wait for the defacing of our beautiful county, call your county board member now.

The county board meeting is 7 p.m. Monday, June 18.
