David Bellamy to speak at wind farm meeting

bridlingtontoday.co.uk

Opponents of a controversial wind farm scheme are welcoming the support of top conservationist David Bellamy.

Dr Bellamy will be a special guest at a meeting on Monday to discuss the effects of the planned wind farm on the local environment and tourism in the area.

Organisers have leafleted the local villages, including Lissett, where the airfield which would house the 12-turbine site is located, and they hope for a bumper turn-out at the meeting, to be held at Far Grange Caravan Park, Skipsea.

Objectors claim the meeting will discuss the truth about wind farms, with Dr Bellamy contributing on the environmental and social aspects of the scheme.
Mike McCann, managing director of Far Grange Park and vice-chairman of the British Holiday and Home Parks Association, said of Dr Bellamy’s appearance: “He is our patron and our association is against all land-based wind turbines because of the detrimental effect they have on tourism. Most of our parks are in remote areas or coastal areas where these things are sited.”

The meeting will also hear from Bob Graham, chairman of the Highlands Against Wind Farms group.

He will present a DVD on the effects of wind farms on the American landscape.

Graham Moore, from Stop Turbines in East Riding (STiER) which is opposing the scheme, said: “We want as many people there as possible, to get a different view across.”

The meeting will be held in the leisure centre at Far Grange from 7pm.
David Taylor, from Novera, the company which hopes to erect the turbines, said: “Dr Bellamy and Bob Graham will turn up to support anti-wind farm operations on sites they think are going to get planning.

“By turning up they have given us the great honour by saying we are on their hit list. People aren’t stupid. There are some people opposing this for their own ends, and being very selfish, and there are some who genuinely don’t like wind farms.”
