RED WING – The final chapter of the contentious battle over erecting wind turbines in Goodhue County might be written Thursday when the 78-megawatt AWA Goodhue wind project is expected to be decided by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission in St. Paul.

The approval process has taken nearly four times longer than is typical – nearly two full years – because of public push back. Citizens are again marshaling their forces for Thursday morning’s meeting, which many expect to continue well into the afternoon.

The 32,000-acre AWA Goodhue project has more than 200 participants, but Thursday’s agenda is filled almost exclusively with critics.

“We’ve been searching for a nice way to convince people that the PUC process is totally inadequate,” said Goodhue County Attorney Steve Betcher. Read the complete story in Wednesday’s print edition.
