Censored, again 

Today, for the first time since early last fall, I had a letter published in a major Maine Newspaper.

I have written before about the censorship that has kept me out of the Maine Today Media Papers, and off their online comments pages.

After The Portland Press Herald/Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel all ran extremely biased and untruthful editorials on May 4, I had to write.

This time, instead of ignoring me, I got an email telling me, basically, that they didn’t like the fact that I called them liars, but that if I would re-edit, they would consider publication. I thought that perhaps things were changing for the better………….

After two edits, and a couple of back and forth emails where they asked me for sources/documentation, the LTE Staff sent me a ‘final’ version that they were willing to print. It was a version that I was happy to have my name on, even though it didn’t have quite the ‘teeth’ of my original letter. I looked forward to having it published.

So, imagine my surprise when I saw what made the paper today—–NOT the edited version that we had agreed upon, but a letter that the MTM staff had composed themselves, using pieces of my original letter, and various sentences from out of several emails, and then knocking out certain words that changed the meaning of what I said……

I am NOT happy!

Below is the original letter that I sent, followed by the ‘edited’ version, which both sides had agreed to, and then what actually ran in today’s paper.

Is anyone else in this state disgusted with such dishonest Journalism?

Oh yah, and to top it off, I can’t even make the truth known to the MTM readers, since my online comments to those papers have never been printed…………

The May 4 Editorial that ran in all three MTM papers was absolutely disgusting, and untruthful. To belittle those opposing Industrial Wind Developments in our Mountains, to say that it’s all about the view, and to insinuate that we are anti-business, is not only bad reporting, it is simply not truthful.

The fact of the matter is; Industrial Wind on our Mountains is a scam that will not add to energy independence, will not reduce the use of fossil fuels, WILL cost us a lot of money, and will not bring permanent jobs. In fact, it is already killing jobs in our $10 Billion Dollar per year Tourism Industry. All of these FACTS can be proven, if anyone bothers to look!

The only thing ‘green’ about these projects is the massive amount of public tax money that Snake Oil Salesmen like Angus King get to put in their pockets for promoting them. If Angus King, Iberdrola, and the rest really wanted to do what was right for Maine, they would stop their lies!

Most people in Maine DO NOT support these projects, as can be seen in recent polls by WABI-TV 5, The Bangor Daily, and The Maine Sportsman. I understand that the Editors/Owners of Maine Today Media have strong financial and political reasons to promote wind development, but that does not excuse the publishing of lies, and the refusal [over and over] to print the truth when it is submitted.

It is already killing jobs in our $10 billion per year tourism industry. I have had clients tell me: “If those turbines go up, we’re not coming back.” I know at least one Maine Guide who has closed his doors to go work elsewhere, because his clients stopped coming back when the turbines went up.

Every client who doesn’t come back not only affects us, but has a ripple effect throughout the community as they don’t shop in local stores, don’t eat in local restaurants, don’t buy local gas, etc.
