Public hearing on wind turbines

Credit:  By Nicole Muller, The Register, www.wickedlocal.com 6 April 2011 ~~

SOUTH DENNIS – At 6 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Dennis Senior Center, the Dennis Water District Board of Water Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on the status of the district’s wind power feasibility study and three related articles to be voted at the Annual District meeting on Tuesday, April 26.

The public hearing will present information regarding the development of wind power as a renewable energy resource for the district, review the three articles and provide the public with an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns and support.

The proposed articles would authorize water commissioners to file special legislation to amend the district’s enabling act to allow the construction of renewable energy resources and to sell excess electricity; to file special legislation under Article 97 of the state constitution to change the use of certain water supply protection lands for the development of renewable energy resources; and to grant an easement to the town of Dennis for the construction of a wind turbine on water district land.

The Dennis Water District’s Annual Meeting will convene at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Dennis Senior Center.
