COLEBROOK – An anti-turbine sentiment prevailed among residents who spoke at the Connecticut Siting Council’s second day of hearings and first day of testimony regarding a proposal for six wind turbines in town.
Residents of Colebrook, Winsted and Norfolk, as they did Tuesday, voiced opposition during the second of two hearings at Northwest Regional High School in Winsted. The arguments offered echoed those raised Tuesday: that the industrial turbines, 492 feet tall, would destroy the countryside; that property values would plummet; that neighbors would be affected by noise.
Others who attended an evidentiary hearing earlier in the day, when the council hear testimony from BNE Energy of West Hartford, said they were unimpressed with the council, which is the ultimate authority as to whether the turbines will be built here.
“What a pathetic display of knowledge,” said Stella Sommers, owner of Rock Hall Luxe Lodging. Sommers believes that if the siting council allows the project to continue, her nearby bed and breakfast will be forced out of business.
