Wind power thin as air

Credit:  The Kansas City Star, kansascity.com 17 January 2011 ~~

The Star is always belly-aching about the imaginary woes of ethanol. But when will you sic your crack eco-corruption investigatory team onto this farce of wind power?

Regulators have a gun to the heads of power companies to make them buy wind power, but because we all want our lights to come on whether or not the wind is blowing, power companies don’t get to reduce production from other sources to make up for the wind power they’re forced to buy. So we end up paying more for electricity through eventual rate increases, just so tree-huggers can feel good that their lobby efforts are expanding the wind power industry.

If I want a windmill at my house to generate end-user power so I don’t have to use the electric company’s juice, that should be my choice. But producer mandates for wind power do nothing to save the environment and end up costing consumers more.

You say there’s little justification for ethanol, but all that’s holding up wind power is thin air.
