Wind farm plan near Stockton wins approval

A controversial wind farm planned for land near Stockton has been given the green light.
The development, which will see the installation of four 125m-high turbines at the Lambs Hill site, west of Stillington, had mixed reactions from both the public and councillors deciding whether to approve the plans.
A power facility will also be located within the Stillington Industrial Estate.
Stockton Council’s planning committee received 40 objections to the plans, but also received 20 letters offering support for the scheme.
At an emotional committee meeting, 17 members of the public – both for and against – stood to have their say before the decision was made.
Mum-of-two Karen Brown, from Stillington Crossings, close to the site, said if the proposals were to go ahead, her daughter would be affected.
She said: “My 10-year-old daughter Amy suffers from visual spatial disorder, which means she has a reduced ability to make sense of information going in visually.”
She went on to say that a “shadowflicker” effect, caused by turbine blades passing the sun, could cause Amy to feel dizziness and lose her balance.
Other objections mainly focused on the visual impact.
