Power of the people claimed a victory this week when councillors turned down part of a controversial plan to build nine wind turbines in Yelden.
Protesters packed out a planning meeting of Bedford Borough Council on Monday evening to urge councillors to turn down the proposal at Chelveston Airfield, despite it being recommended for approval.
After hearing from campaign group Preserve, Yelden Parish Council, and other interested parties, councillors did a u-turn and voted that they would be minded to reject the application, but it will decided on what grounds at a later date.
Kate Gelder from Yelden Parish Council said at the meeting: “Almost every resident has experienced anger and concern over this planning application.
“It seems to be at complete odds with your own policies that you state on your website.
“This application will affect 52 homes that are within 1,000 metres of the site. And we have been left shocked and amazed that you have not been advised to make a site visit.
But a representative for the applicant Chelveston Renewable Energy said the proposal will make a huge contribution to combat climate change.
A decision was set to be made last night on the other five wind turbines in Northants.
