Residents claim ‘secret deals’ being made over Collector wind farm

A proposed wind farm at Collector, north of Canberra, is making locals angry.
Transfield Services’ plans to install 80 turbines for $400 million have yet to be approved by the NSW Government.
Prime lamb producer at Collector, Rod Pahl, has teamed with another local, retired corporate receiver Tony Hodgson, to lead opposition to the wind farm, on health grounds.
They’re worried about low level noise.
Mr Pahl claims Transfield Services has also made secret deals with a few landholders to lease their wind turbines.
“Transfield says they’re very rigorous in their process, but in fact they’ve really only had very little true community consultation,” he said.
“They had one day and the map that they released of the turbines included turbines on the property of a man who’s fundamentally opposed to wind farms.
“They’ve hadn’t bothered to tell him.”
Transfield has declined to comment about the alleged secret payments.
It’s a well-established practice for wind farm developers to call land lease arrangements ‘commercial in confidence’, and the same has occurred at Crookwell, Cullerin Range and Bungendore in the Southern Tablelands of NSW.
