Public hearing set on permit application for Stark and Warren wind projects

The Stark Town Council will hold a public hearing on the special permit application of Jordanville Wind LLC, which pertains to the proposed wind energy projects in the towns of Stark and Warren.
The hearing will be conducted in the Owen D. Young Central School Auditorium on Monday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.
All residents of the town of Stark and other interested people will be given the opportunity to speak and be heard.
Stark Supervisor Richard Bronner said this is the next step in the process of allowing wind turbines to be built.
Bronner said the report has covered everything from investigations into birds and bats to the visual impact the turbines will have on the area. He said the report also answered questions posed at an earlier meeting.
“It seems to have covered most everyone’s questions but that is open to debate,” said Bronner. “It seems they have done a reasonably thorough job and answered most questions.”
The project consists of up to 68 two megawatt per hour wind energy turbines, and associated facilities, including access roads, overhead power lines, underground collection lines, construction staging area and operational structures.
Bronner said the total scope is a huge project that will hopefully be done to the betterment of everybody.
“We are going to try to do the best job we can,” said Bronner.
The final environmental impact statement has already been accepted by the town of Warren.
The special permit application is available for public review at the office of the town clerk of Stark, 207 Fiery Hill Road, Fort Plain and appointments can be made by calling 823-1697.
The impact statement is also posted at www.jordanvillewind.com.
Pending approval, the project is expected to enter into commercial operation during late 2008.
