Residents put at risk by sewerage authority

The Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority in Union Beach does not have all the permits in place for its planned 380-foot industrial wind turbine and is now trying to purchase an additional half-acre of land from Jersey Central Power & Light Co., owner of the wetlands on Conaskonk Point.
The authority needs this additional land because the blades of the turbine would extend beyond the existing property line.
The town and the vast majority of residents oppose the turbine project. Hazlet, Keyport and Monmouth County all have passed resolutions in opposition.
The BRSA is trying to force the turbine down the throats of the communities it serves and has irresponsibly spent more than $2 million on the project.
By not first acquiring the additional land and ensuring that all permits were completed, it has put the ratepayers it serves at risk. As Union Beach’s attorney, Stuart Lieberman, pointed out at a recent planning board hearing, the BRSA spent that money on speculation, and ratepayers will repay Uncle Sam the stimulus funds grant if the project fails.
Many area residents are calling for Union Beach, Hazlet and Holmdel to recall their BRSA commissioners and replace them with competent and ethical people who have the best interests of the towns they represent at heart. The current ones clearly don’t.
