Windmill ordinance tabled

NOXEN TWP. – The supervisors tabled a proposed ordinance regulating windmills on May 1 for the second time.
The township will hold a special work session Tuesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the old Noxen school to hear statements from both sides.
“We want to take the most responsible action in the long-term interests of the township,” said chairman Tom Nalbone Jr.
The move came after a 25-minute executive session with solicitor Ron Kamage to discuss “concerns about litigation.”
Kevin McDavis, a business developer for BP Alternative Energies of Charlottesville, Va., had discussed his concerns about the proposed ordinance at a work session before the meeting.
He indicated that the proposed ordinance may be “overly restrictive” and that the permit and filing fees may be “exorbitant,” Nalbone said afterwards.
McDavis did not speak at the meeting, but indicated that he plans to attend the May 22 work session.
BP Alternative Energies is evaluating “what may be possible wind resources” in the area, McDavis said afterwards. The company does not presently own any wind farms (large groups of windmills generating electricity and set up in one place) in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he added.
According to its Web site, BP Alternative Energies owns many large wind power projects across the country and in Europe. Its goal is to become one of the world’s leading producers of wind power by 2015.
Last month the supervisors tabled the proposed ordinance because it was improperly advertised.
