Traffic and pollution fears over turbine blade deliveries

Braunton councillors are calling on county officials to control how more than 60 giant wind turbine blades are moved through the village.
They fear traffic hold-ups caused by deliveries to the biggest on-shore wind farm in England will make Braunton’s air pollution worse.
The firm behind the scheme ESB Wind Development UK, has told the Journal that it intends to restrict movements of the giant turbines to night times and off peak hours.
But fears were raised again at a meeting of the parish council.
Cllr Jasmine Chesters said afterwards: “We’ve already got the lowest air quality in North Devon and I’m asking for these turbine blades to be brought through Braunton at night.
“There’ll be something like 66 journeys and we don’t want them blocking up the roads during the day when traffic would be at a standstill pumping fumes out into the village.”
The council is making the request to the turbine company and Devon County Council Highways.
