Bangor – A non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term preservation of the state’s Downeast Lakes Watershed is voicing its opposition to land-based wind projects like Bowers Mountain.

Members of the Partnership for the Preservation of the Downeast Lakes Watershed, or PPDLW, are asking Governor-elect Paul LePage to place a moratorium on grid scale industrial wind projects until scientific cost-benefit studies can be completed.

” We are not against renewable energy, nor are we opposed to wind-generated energy when it is sited intelligently. When industrial wind runs up against the quality of place that is Maine’s stated brand, none of us can afford to remain silent,” said Kevin Gurall, president of PPDLW.

The group says the Bowers Mountain project will harm the ecology and visual beauty of the Downeast Lakes Watershed which they say will impact the outdoor-economy.
