A proposed wind farm in Camden and Currituck Counties could be built on land the Navy is eyeing for its proposed Outlying Landing Field. Camden County manager Randell Woodruff says if the wind project goes through, the Navy wouldn’t be able to move forward with building a landing field in the area.
Randell Woodruff: It is moving forward. Currently there are two different wind energy companies that are in the process of acquiring leases in Camden County in an area known as Hells Lake which is a large farming area made up of about seventeen or eighteen thousand acres of open space.]
Woodruff says the proposed wind farm is a large potential economic development project for Camden County. He says it’s estimated to cost between 150 to 170 million dollars and would benefit the county’s tax base.
