Wind farm application for East and West Newbiggin, near Darlington

Victorious protestors face a fresh campaign against a wind farm near their homes.
Pure Renewable Energy will submit plans for four turbines at East and West Newbiggin, between Darlington and Stockton.
The four turbines on land 2km south-west of Bishopton and 2km north-east of Sadberge will provide 8MW of energy -enough to power 5,000 homes for 25 years.
The news comes on the back of protestors winning a campaign against another application at Moor House Farm, just west of the proposed Newbiggin application.
Darlington Borough Council refused the application on visual impact grounds and because it was formore turbines than independent consultant Arup said would be suitable.
Peter Wood, from the Seven Parishes Action Group, said: “Yesterday’s decision shows that ten turbines was far too many, but the Newbiggin site is worse because it is the closed in by more residents and more villages than the Moor House site was. Even some of the developers say they won’t touch the site.”
Alan Irvine, from Pure Renewable Energy, said: “We feel that the site for four turbines ties in with the recommendations by the Arup report.”
Consultation events will be held in Sadberge Village Hall from noon to 7pm on Friday, November 19, and at Bishopton Redmarshall Primary School from 11am to 6pm the next day.
