Too high a price to pay

Will common sense return to Maine?
It was with great interest that I watched the recent election returns. For some time now, I have been displeased with the way that our state government has made choices for Maine at the expense of the gullible public. Let’s hope that the newly elected leaders in our state will apply some common sense when it comes to issues that affect all of Maine, both rural and city residents.
We who live in the rural parts of Maine, who know what it is like to wake each morning to view the beauty of the country, have been concerned that special-interest groups and large wind companies don’t care about what matters to us. We have become expendable to them. We, quite frankly, do not count. If we can be bribed and cajoled into accepting their promises and their plans for erecting 400-foot wind turbines on our rural mountains, so much the better for them.
But we are not the rural hicks that they assume we are. We have studied the issues and we feel the cost to Maine is far too high a price to pay. We want to protect the beauty of Maine from the destructive force called “big wind.”
Let’s hope that our elected officials will finally get it and stop promoting this small profit, large cost, energy source … which, it turns out, is not so “green.”
