Parish opposes Palgrave turbine plans

A parish council has aired its opposition to a wind turbine development, despite a community centre committee’s attempt to win over villagers.
Officials from the Palgrave Community Council have resubmitted plans for a 24m-high mast at the village hall, near Diss, in a bid to overcome local objections.
But members of Palgrave Parish Council last week voted to oppose the application, which would help slash the centre’s electricity bills.
The community council has proposed to construct the wind turbine at the corner of the playing field in Upper Rose Lane to reduce the impact on homes following objections to a previous application.
But the parish council said they were still against the visual impact of the mast on the landscape and objected to the plans for a turbine on the playing field. More than 50 people attended the council meeting on Thursday.
So far, Mid Suffolk District Council has received 35 letters of opposition and 14 in favour. The district council’s planning committee will determine the application later this year.
