GOP gubernatorial nominee U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, Topeka, said he would not support development of wind power generation in the heart of the Flint Hills.

Brownback campaigned Friday in Flint Hills country, with a stop in Council Grove. He advocated developing a system of biking, hiking and horseback riding trails that could connect to points of interest in the region. He also favors investing in better access from Interstates 70 and 35, and marketing key events in the region, a campaign press release stated.

Brownback called for using private marketing dollars to promote attractions in the region, the release also said.

Events such as the Symphony in the Flint Hills draw people to the region for a specific event, but he talked about a series of events and experiences over the course of a weekend, several days or a week to boost tourism.
