Turbulence increases over wind turbines

It was a gathering in Clinton that nearly dwarfed the small town and one a local Tory says doesn’t bode well for Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell.

Between 600 and 1,000 people, some from as far away as Kincardine, crammed into an equine arena to share concerns about wind farms, a cause that has them on a collision course with Mitchell.

The event was facilitated by a politician who wants to run against the two-term MPP, Conservative John Bezaire.

“I can’t recall a public meeting in Huron or Bruce drawing that number . . . It’s really unheard of,” said Bezaire, the deputy reeve of Central Huron Township and former Huron County warden.

“She’s (Mitchell) in a lot of trouble.”

Mitchell was at the forefront of legislation meant to remove local political barriers to wind farms, the Green Energy Act, which took away the right of municipalities to block green energy developments.
