James Langtry calls CROH ‘low down dirty snakes’

HAMMOND – Town Councilman James E. Langtry says the Concerned Residents of Hammond accusation that he has a conflict of interest because his sister signed a lease with a wind company shows the group is “nothing but a bunch of low down dirty snakes.”
Mr. Langtry says it was “typical CROH.”
“Nothing but a bunch of low-down dirty snakes,” he said of the grassroots citizens group opposed to the currently-under-moratorium wind law adopted by the outgoing town board in December 2009.
CROH President Mary E. Hamilton in the letter accused Mr. Langtry of having a conflict of interest when participating in wind power discussions because his sister, Susan Dunham, has a signed lease with Atlantic Wind, LLC (a.k.a. Iberdrola Renewables, Inc.).
Of his sister and the lease she signed with Iberdrola, Mr. Langtry pleaded ignorance.
“I haven’t talked to my sister in three years. How can I say anything? I didn’t know anything about any of the things she (Mrs. Hamilton) wrote about,” Mr. Langtry said Tuesday.
Ms. Dunham, of 495 county Route 6, could not be reached for comment.
The letter suggest that the Hammond Town Board should instruct the town attorney to request an opinion from the St. Lawrence County Board of Ethics in regards to Mr. Langtry’s relationship with Ms. Dunham. CROH also requested the town board to have it’s attorney contact the Deputy Attorney General’s Office in Syracuse to inquire about Mr. Langtry and Iberdrola Renewable’s failure to disclose wind leases in a timely fashion, and about the Langtry conflict.
Mr. Langtry also had a response to a sentence in the CROH letter which read, “Ignorance on the part of the wind developer or Mr. Langtry is not acceptable in this case.”
“I take exception to that,” Mr. Langtry said. “I was not aware.”
When asked about conflicts of interest and recusing himself from wind power discussions and voting at town board meetings, Mr. Langtry ended the conversation.
“That’s about all I have to say,” Mr. Langtry said.
