Developer seeks permit for wind farm near Toluca

A special use permit will likely be submitted in October for a wind farm near Toluca, engineer George Meister told the Marshall County Board on Thursday.
The proposed wind farm, which would be located about three miles southeast of Toluca in Bennington Township, would have 16 wind turbines, Meister said.
“He (the interested party) has the landowner agreements,” he said.
The turbines would be 2½ megawatts – considerably more than the 1½-megawatt turbines in the Camp Grove area, Meister said after the meeting.
If the special use permit is submitted in October, it likely would come to the county board in December. Meister said the interested party hopes to begin the project sometime next year.
In other news:
n Board chairman Dennis Bogner said the reappointment of the county engineer would be tabled until next month.
n County engineer Meister told the board a $1.5 million overlay in McNabb would begin this week. The project will stretch from Route 26 to Route 89 in McNabb. “It’s a much needed improvement,” he said.
