Two public hearings are scheduled to discuss appropriate areas for wind energy development in federal waters off Southeastern Massachusetts.
Last month, Gov. Deval Patrick and Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in permitting and developing offshore wind energy projects in an “area of mutual interest” 12 miles southwest of Martha’s Vineyard. There will be a question and answer period during the hearings and written comments will be accepted through Sept. 24.
Hearings are Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. at UMass Dartmouth School for Marine Science and Technology, 2nd floor conference room and Thursday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs.
