Proposed wind farm’s changes up for review

Members of the Ellis County Joint Planning Commission will determine Wednesday if changes in Hays Wind LLC’s proposed project southwest of Hays constitute a minor change in the project’s development plan.

The planning commission will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ellis County meeting room, 601 Main.

The issue was discussed at the board’s July meeting, but no decision was made because proper legal counsel was not present and commission members wanted more time to study the information.

Fifteen turbines in the project had to be relocated as the result of a mediated settlement between the county and 21 plaintiffs. Other turbines have been moved by Hays Wind as the result of engineering studies determining the most efficient locations for turbines.

The planning commission will determine if those changes are minor. Their recommendation will be forwarded to the county commission for a final decision.

Also on the agenda is the introduction of a new commission member. Dean Haselhorst, who was appointed to the third district county commission seat earlier this month, will provide recommendations for his replacement on the planning commission at Monday’s county commission meeting.
