Developers behind controversial plans for a five-turbine wind farm on the Fearn peninsula have lodged the additional information demanded by planners.
Falck Reneweables, which had previously been accused by local opponents of the scheme of being secretive in the way it was progressing the scheme, wants to build the wind farm on Nigg Hill.
The original application for a 10MW wind farm was submitted to Highland Council in January 2008 and would, the developer claims, generate enough “green” electricity to supply around 6,000 homes and help reduce reliance on existing less environmentally-friendly energy resources.
Alasdair Macpherson, development manager at Falck Renewables said, “Since our initial application submission, we have been working with the Council and the statutory consultees. We have completed our bird survey work and have also produced additional information which addresses some specific queries they had.”
Falck Renewables operates three wind farms in the Highland region. The firm has a policy of offering the opportunity for local people to own a stake in their wind farms via a series of local wind energy co-operatives.
It says that to date, around 2,500 people have invested over £3.8 million in wind farm co-ops in Scotland through their partnership with Energy4All.
Highland Council asked for more information on the proposal. The local authority also clarified procedures for the representation of how the turbines will appear in the landscape on plans after Falck came under fire for use misleading images which downplayed the impact.
