– A Massachusetts-based company has filed an application for a 60-megawatt wind farm near The Dalles.
UPC Wind expects the Oregon Energy and Facility Siting Council to grant certification by early next year. This means commercial wind farm operations could be in place by the end of 2008.
The Cascade Wind Project would be on Seven Mile Hill, just west of The Dalles and would be visible from the city.
UPC Wind has proposed constructing 40 General Electric wind turbine generators at the site, each with a 1.5-megawatt production capacity. If approved, the project would connect to the BPA power grid and could power as many as 12,000 homes.
UPC will hold a community open house on the project in May at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center.
