Families to speak about turbine

(Port Elgin ) – The Saugeen Turbine Operation Policy (STOP) group is hosting a public meeting in the hopes of hearing stories from families affected by the CAW wind turbine.
The single turbine is producing energy for the Family Education Centre and because of when the application was made, is not bound by any location rules put forth by the Green Energy Act or the municipality.
STOP spokesperson Greg Schmalz says they’ve invited the 117 families that live inside the 550-meter zone of the turbine to come out and discuss their health issues.
Schmalz says they will also have information for the families as to how to file a formal complaint because without that, there’s no record of any issues.
The meeting is open to the public and takes place at Maple Hall dinner theatre building on Mill Street, formerly the United Church in Port Elgin, at 7 PM on Thursday, July 11th.
STOP has another event planned this summer as well.
Schmalz says on Labour Day Monday, he’s hoping people will join wind groups from all over Ontario on the beach at Gobles Grove to do a shoulder-to-shoulder spelling of the word, “HELP.”
He says the idea is to send a message to all levels of government that the STOP group needs to study the health effects of industrial wind turbines.
Schmalz says there’s going to be some fun involved as well, as they go for a Guinness Book of World Records for such an event.
He says their application is in and they’ve already hired aircraft to record the event from the air in video and still photo formats.
The Labour Day Monday event gets underway at 11 AM at Saugeen Beach in Gobles Grove.
