Campaigners plan wind farm protest in Churchover

A campaign group will protest in Churchover against plans to create a wind farm near the village.

The ‘community rally’ will take place outside Churchover Village Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday (June 25).

The campaigners will protest against a proposed wind farm which could be built to the west of the A5 to the north of Churchover.

Renewable energy company RES hope to put up four turbines on the site.

The proposal follows another one by SSE which propised nine turbines on the site.

Lorne Smith from ASWAR (Against Subsidised Windfarms Around Rugby) said: “It is devastating that another company has the arrogance to tell us that it is for our own good that they want to ruin a conservation village with a listed church that has dominated the meandering Swift Valley, a Warwickshire heritage beauty spot for over 1,000 years, with industrial turbines five times the height of the church spire.

“They want to put us all through the agony and worry over low frequency infra-sound noise and all the safety and health hazards associated with industrial turbines, plus the devaluing of property without compensation.”

The public exhibitions will be held at the following places:

Tuesday June 25, 10am to midday at Rugby Library, Little Elborow Street, Rugby

Tuesday June 25, 3-8pm at Churchover Village Hall, The Green, Churchover

Wednesday June 26, midday to 4pm at Lutterworth Golf Club, Rugby Road, Lutterworth
