Wind not economical power source

Credit:  The Star Press | June 14, 2013 | www.thestarpress.com ~~

In a recent letter, Jesse Karbanda, Hoosier Environmental Council, wrote, “Wind energy is now one of the least expensive forms, even with government support, of newly built generation on a megawatt-hour basis. “

Not so.

The Sierra Club, a bedmate of the Hoosier Environmental Society, stated “At 4 cents/kilowatt hour, that (wind) is some of the cheapest electricity in the country, costing less than half of last year’s national average, for all electrical sources, including coal and gas.

Not so.

This statement neither considers the impact of federal subsidies nor the fact that wind power by itself is not usable by some grids due to its intermittent and variable nature. That nature requires dependency upon energy that can be made available at will, such as coal and natural gas.

While coal and gas get 64 cents/Mwh from the government, wind receives a whopping $56.29/Mwh.

When all factors are included, a conservative estimate is that wind energy costs 15 cents/kWh. This triples the cost of energy produced by natural gas and twice as expensive as coal and nuclear.

These things are rusting away all over the globe. Let the liberal/progressive/ fascist, communist regimes renew them on their dime, not mine. Over and over they have been foisted upon the gullible, uninformed public and thrown into the huge money pit of economic disaster.

Worms learn faster than that.
