Protest at new wind farm hope

Another action group has been formed to oppose plans to bring the UK’s tallest wind turbines to the Afan Valley.
Gamesa Energy UK wants to put 14 turbines there, each one 603 foot tall.
With a 120-metre tower and a 64-metre blade, the wind farm would consist of four turbines in Glyncorrwg and a further 10 on the Gelli mountain near Croeserw.
The Cymmer Wind Farm Action Group is against the plans.
It claimed the turbines would lower the quality of life for residents in the Upper Afan Valley, devaluing their properties and harming the area’s growing tourism trade and wildlife.
Secretary of the group, Scott Jones, said: “The wind farms currently proposed for the Upper Afan Valley are completely unwanted by the residents of all the villages.
“We are concerned about the possibility of property devaluation, loss of tourism and harm to wildlife.
“It’s possible that in the future the valley could be raped in the name of wind power as it was in the past by coal.
“Whilst the tourism industry fetches local employment, the wind farms produce none.”
