A parish council has objected to plans for two 54-metre wind turbines it says will blight the landscape.

Members in Wales voted to register their protest against the wind plan, south of the village close to the M1.

Navarda Wind Turbines says the development at Norwood Lock, off Rotherham Road, will create 1,120Mwh of renewable energy.

Parish council clerk Richard Waller detailed the councillors’ objection to the scheme.

He said: “Notwithstanding any measures taken by the applicant to minimise the impact of the development on the amenity value of the area, it would be detrimental to the natural beauty of the area.

“The applicant appears to be in the process of constructing a roadway through the site and it is likely that vehicles would present a danger to predestrians in the area.”

Navarda confirmed that a temporary access would be needed to deliver the 39-metre masts and 15-metre blades from Mansfield Road.

Planning documents said: “There are no overriding adverse effects in terms of the cultural or ecological matters.

“Equally, there are no overriding adverse effects to residential amenities or to visual amenities.

“A small amount of excavation will be required for the concrete bases to anchor the turbine towers.

“The economic, social and environmental benefits of wind turbine development projects are clearly stated in all national and local papers.”
