Massive wind farm stalls

A proposal to erect more than $100 million in wind turbines in Delaware County has hit a major snag. Mike Jones, a county councilman who serves on the tax abatement committee, tells Inside INdiana Business E.ON Climate & Renewables’ plan to build up to 30 turbines is on hold. He says the company has pulled its tax abatement request pending further study by the county. Jones says E.ON indicated it would not move forward with the project without the break.

The company’s plans also include a similar $100 million, 30-turbine farm in Randolph County.

Jones says E.ON Climate & Renewables has been “very upfront” with information and intentions throughout the process.

He says the company has been working on the plan since 2009 when it started talking with land owners in the area. Jones doesn’t believe they would have put forth all of the effort they have to this point and give up upon not receiving abatement.

Inside INdiana Business has contacted an E.ON spokesman for comment.
