Plans for another wind turbine near Yelvertoft have been refused permission by Daventry Districty Council due to the cumulative impact on the area.
DDC’s planning committee discussed the application for a single 102-metre turbine at land near Flint Hill Farm.
The applicant said the turbine would provide power for the nearby canal marina, making it one of the first energy self-sufficient ones in the country. The application had been recommended for approval by planning officers, however, councillors argued there were too many turbines in the Yelvertoft area already.
Representatives from Winwick Parish Meeting told the committee the area already has many turbines, and there are yet more with planning permissions waiting to be built.
New planning guidelines set out a presumption in favour of ‘sustainable development’.
Cllr Alan Chantler said: “There’s no benefit to the local community but it would cause harm.
“There would be no views left out of the village without turbines in the frame.”
The planning officer’s report said: “While the development will be readily visible in the landscape its impact is judged to be acceptable.”
But the councillors disagreed. They agreed to refuse permission based on the cumulative impact on the environment of turbines in the area.
