1,000 objections to wind turbine

A thousand letters of objection have gone to planning chiefs in response to proposals for a giant wind turbine near Uttoxeter.
The proposed wind turbine will be 74 metres in height and situated on Bramshall Farm, in close proximity to local business Ashcroft Park.
Jamie Pagett, owner of Ashcroft Park, has taken the first 500 objections to the council planning committee.
Approximately 1,000 objections have been made to the proposal so far.
The objections voice concerns about the negative impacts of the turbine on the surrounding area.
Noise pollution is a key concern with wind turbines as this can have problems for residents living near to the turbine.
Studies have shown that wind turbines have the potential to affect sleep patterns of those living near turbines due to their constant noise.
The fact that this turbine will stand at 74 metres is causing concerns for businesses close to the location of the turbine.
Ashcroft Park, an adventure centre for corporate events and children’s parties, will be the most affected by the current proposal.
There are also concerns about shadow flicker, which is caused when the sun flickers through the blades, as well as worries about the destruction of countryside.
Mr Pagett said: “The turbine will cause a lot of noise and shadow flicker.
“The main thing is it’s in the wrong place, just 250 metres from our adventure park where we hold corporate events and childrens parties.
“Our corporate groups come down to see the countryside, and they don’t want to see a giant turbine.
“I’m in favour of turbines providing they are built in the right area. Industrial areas are ideal.
“The amount of noise pollution it will cause for those living close by will have a heavy impact.
“The intrusive effect of turbines mean that many people have voiced their objections.
“Wind turbines are very inefficient as far as renewable energy sources go.
“We have 25 staff at the adventure centre, who have worked hard to create customers, business and tourism and the turbine will have a direct impact on our business.”
Many have added their voice to the objections, including town councillors who agreed to oppose the turbine in the recent town council meeting.
