Three of four appeals are against turbine site plans

Planning chiefs at East Staffordshire Borough Council have revealed they have received appeals against four of their decisions – three-quarters of which relate to applications to build wind turbines.

There are currently four appeals pending against decisions made by the council’s planning applications committee, chaired by Councillor Greg Hall (pictured).

These include three lodged by those wanting to build turbines, but whose plans have been knocked back by the committee.

The first appeal has been made by Christopher and Ronald Litchfield against the rejection of a bid to build a 46.3m wind turbine at Dunsfields Farm, in Thorney Lanes, Buttermilk Hill, Marchington Woodlands.

The remaining two appeals against the council’s wind turbine decisions have been lodged by Piran Renewable Investments Limited.

These relate to rejected plans to build a 48.5m machine at Harts Farm in Radmore Lane, Abbots Bromley, and a 32.6m turbine at Manor Farm in Uttoxeter Road, Netherland Green, Marchington.

The list of four planning appeals, including the three rejected wind turbine plans, are due to be discussed at a planning applications committee meeting next week, during which councillors will be asked to consider the situation. The committee will also discuss appeals the council has won.

These include plans to extend a gallery at Barton Marina, in Barton under Needwood. An appeal against the borough council’s initial decision to refuse the extension was dismissed last month by the Planning Inspectorate. An earlier appeal against the authority’s refusal to allow a number of mobile homes to be built in Barton Road, Woodhouses, near Yoxall, was also dismissed.

Staffordshire County Council plans to prevent the building of wind turbines within 2km of residential developments were dealt a blow last month by a High Court ruling against an authority in another part of the country. The ruling means it could become more difficult to block applications in rural areas.
