FAA says ‘no’ to proposed turbines in Litchfield

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Federal Aviation Administration is saying ‘no’ to proposed industrial wind turbines in the Town of Litchfield, after deeming them a presumed hazard to the area.

The FAA issued 11 letters to Ridgeline Energy, letting them know that their proposed wind turbines are too tall and would interfere with air traffic.

Ridgeline Energy wanted to install 492-foot tall industrial wind turbines in Litchfield, but the FAA says the height can’t surpass 85 feet.

In addition to their concern over air traffic safety, the FAA says the proposed turbines are too close to the Utica VORTAC, near Highland Airport.

The Town of Litchfield has a law banning industrial wind turbines, but Ridgeline Energy has applied to New York State under Article 10, asking to override the local law.
