Board leader failed to weigh all the evidence

Credit:  May 4, 2013 | www.saukvalley.com ~~

During the 7 months of meetings on the Green River Wind Farm application, only two county board members attended almost all of the hearing meetings. Three more attended a few meetings. Nineteen did not attend any.

Mr. Ketchum, Lee County Board chairman, attended a few meetings, but very few. Yet, he makes a decision without hearing the testimony of 28 people who live among the existing turbines and are suffering.

He didn’t hear, or simply doesn’t care, that the majority of people within the footprint do not want this wind farm for many reasons.

He didn’t hear, or doesn’t care, that a large percentage of the landowners who do want the turbines are absentee landowners.

He didn’t read, or simply doesn’t care, that there were a multitude of reasons to deny the application.

He didn’t discuss, or doesn’t care, that five ZBA members spent night after night listening to testimony and reading exhibits before making an informed decision to protect the health and welfare of all residents of Lee County.

When those meetings began, the ZBA was leaning 4-1 toward approval of the wind project, but after all the evidence was presented, they voted to deny it.

Shame on Mr. Ketchum for not caring enough about the citizens of Lee County to attend all the meetings and become educated. Shame on Mr. Ketchum for his disregard of the ZBA members who did become educated.

Mr. Williams (and all board members) read the testimony from Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, 2012, to see some of the testimony from neighbors who have been adversely impacted. You will see that it does infringe on neighbors’ rights.

Ms. Taylor, visit people who live by the wind turbines; look at the evidence. Try to sleep at night with the noise and vibrations.
