Firm invites residents to discuss windfarm project

The energy firm behind plans to build three giant wind turbines on the moors above South Yorkshire has organised a public exhibition to explain why they chose the site.
E.ON UK will reveal details of the wind farm on Blackstone Edge, a bleak rocky outcrop above Penistone. The farm is set to generate 6 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 3,800 homes.
Plans for the controversial development were approved despite 500 letters of objection claiming the 320ft high turbines will harm the landscape.
Earlier plans for turbines on the site were turned down, but officials say attitudes to renewable energy projects have changed.
The structures will be built on land next to the Hepworth Building Products works at Crow Edge.
They will be less than two miles from the Royd Moor wind farm which has been operating since 1993.
The 13 turbines at Royd Moor, which is part owned by E.ON, generate enough electricity to power 3,300 homes annually.
Marilena Apseridou, project developer for E.ON UK said: “We believe it’s extremely important to keep the local community fully informed and that’s why we’ve set up this exhibition.
“I’d certainly like to urge local people to come along to see the plans, to talk to us about any issues they might have and to find out why we think this is such a great place for a wind farm.”
The exhibition is at Crow Edge Community Centre from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday March 27 and from 9am to 1pm on and Wednesday March 28.
