ORANGEVILLE – The Stony Creek Wind Farm has changed its name due to some confusion with a similarly-named operation.

The project will now be known as the Orangeville Wind Farm, Invenergy officials said in a news release.

“This is to rectify coincidental name confusion, due to the development of an operational wind project of the same name in Pennsylvania,” the release reads. “The project’s legal entity remains ‘Stony Creek Energy LLC’, which is relevant to various project agreements and permits.”

The Orangeville Wind Farm will include 59 wind turbines within the town.

Construction is underway and progressing on schedule, Invenergy officials said. Crews will start building a laydown yard this week on Orangeville Center Road, while work continues on a new New York State Electric & Gas substation on Centerline Road.

Contractors have begun laying out a series of access roads, which will be built over the next few months.

“Turbine deliveries are scheduled to begin in late July,” Invenergy officials said. “The Orangeville project is scheduled to commence full commercial operations by the end of this year.”

The other Stony Creek Wind Farm has been operating in Somerset County, Pa. since 2009. The site includes 35 turbines and is owned by E.ON Climate & Renewables.

Both E.ON and Invenergy are based in Chicago.
