Cape officials blast BP’s scoping statement in letter to state

BP Wind Energy’s preliminary scoping statement for the proposed Cape Vincent Wind Project “willfully disregards every concern that our town government has expressed,” town officials told the state Public Service Commission in a recent letter.

Furthermore, local officials said, the wind developer has “ignored recommendations from your commission to ‘address the relevant requirements in the new regulations’ and promised – but did not follow through on – several action items that would have better educated the public about its project.”

Cape Vincent officials also argued a majority of the town residents are against commercial wind development.

“Surely Governor Cuomo did not envision Article X as a device to force a wind project on a community where it is thoroughly unwelcome. We trust that overwhelming opposition to BP’s efforts in our town for almost a decade will have a ‘meaningful’ impact on the siting process,” they wrote.
