Wind protestors greet Premier

About 50 demonstrators have something to say to Premier Kathleen Wynne during her visit to Clinton.

“Huron County is not a welcomed host to wind turbines.”

That’s according to Huron East Against Turbines spokesperson Tom Melady, who attended Tuesday’s demonstration outside the Regional Equine and Agricultural Centre of Huron in Clinton.

Melady says a number of trucks with signs along the side of them also attended to lend their support to the protest.

Melady says the bottom-line message his and other anti-turbine groups are trying to get across is that wind developments are not welcome in Huron County.

Melady tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that rural communities where wind farms have been established are now dysfunctional and in disarray.

Much of the issue surrounds the perceived adverse health effects produced by wind turbines.

A Health Canada study is looking into reported links between turbines and ill-health of those who live near them – the findings are due out next year.

Melady respects the position in which some municipalities find themselves in when it comes to wind developments.

He reminds municipalities thinking of courting wind developers that residents are not commodities like jobs or taxes and that their communities will suffer if turbines move in.

The presentation marks Wynne’s first visit to Huron County as Premier and Agriculture Minister.
