NORTH EAST – North East Township officials aren’t waiting to see which way the wind blows on commercial wind farm development.
They’re writing an ordinance to regulate where giant turbines can and cannot be placed if developers move ahead with plans to build a commercial-scale wind farm in the township.
Pioneer Green Energy, of Austin, Texas, has leased more than 6,000 acres in the township, primarily south of Interstate 90, in hopes of building a large-scale wind farm.
The ordinance will be crafted by members of the township planning commission this week and will be presented to the public during a meeting at the township municipal building April 1 at 7:30 p.m., North East Township Planning Commission Vice Chairman Fritz Rickrode said.
