Turbine plans withdrawn in face of fierce opposition

A wind power company has withdrawn its application for a wind turbine in the Llŷn Peninsula after re-ceiving fierce opposition.
The applicant, Revolution NRG, withdrew its application for two 250kw wind turbines to be placed on land in at Pentyrch Isaf in Pencaenewydd. The application, which was recommended for refusal, was due to be dis-cussed by planners on Monday.
Llanaelhaearn, Dolbenmaen and Llanystumdwy community councils all objected to the plans, mainly due to the size of the turbines. A large number of letters of objection were received from the public which included around 106 signatures.
A petition was also received objecting to the application, with 159 signatures. The objections included worries over the application having a serious visual impact and effect on health and safety. Thirteen letters of support were also given which stated that the application would have a positive effect on the community and pro-mote the local economy.
A planning officer said: “The nature and scale of the proposal are considered alien and inappropriate to its sensitive location, creating an unacceptable feature which would have an unacceptable detrimental impact on the form and character of the surrounding landscape, including views into and out of the Llŷn Area of Out-standing Natural Beauty.
“The evidence submitted with the application is not sufficient to assess any noise impacts or the effect of creating and casting a shadow on the surrounding sensitive properties.”
Brian Henton, owner of Revolution NRG, said he is planning to take into consideration the concerns of the public and of Gwynedd Council before re-submitting the application.
