More than 500 objections have been lodged against a proposed windfarm near Kirkcudbright.
Plans for five, 115-metre turbines at Barcloy Hill have seen fears raised over issues including noise and impact on the scenery.
Around 160 people have written to the council to support the proposal, claiming the turbines will help reduce global warming and be capable of powering more than a 10th of the region’s homes.
RES lodged the application in December.
Since then the council has been inundated with letters from both supporters and objectors.
Those against feel construction of the development would cause traffic problems and they fear tourists would be put off visiting the area once the windfarm is up and running.
But some of the letters backing the development are from tourists and travel agents who say the construction of turbines would have no effect on their desire to visit the region.
If given the go-ahead, the development would be capable of generating up to 12.5 megawatts.
RES is offering as much as £62,500 a year in community benefits, either by funding projects or through an electricity discount scheme.
