Councillors oppose giant wind farm plan

Highland Council is to object to controversial plans for a giant wind farm on the Ross-shire border.
The North Area planning committee, meeting in Inverness today (Tuesday), agreed unanimously to lodge objections with the Scottish Government against the planning application for the 31-turbine Glenmorie Wind Farm.
The application, by renewables company Wind Energy, will now be heard by way of a public inquiry.
Planning officials had recommended that the council make no objection but committee members had a very different opinion.
Last month councillors visited the proposed site on the Kildermorie and Glencalvie Estates to view the area first hand.
They based their decision to object on a number of grounds including impact on the landscape.
The move is sure to be welcomed by the many campaigners against the development including Save Our Straths, a group set up by people in the communities around Ardross in Easter Ross.
Over 200 objections were lodged with the Scottish Government and 132 with the Highland Council. The John Muir Trust and the Mountaineering Council for Scotland were among the objectors.
Wind Energy says the Glenmorie development would provide around £8 million to a community fund over the 25-year lifetime of the wind farm.
