Inquiry after Somerset wind farm refusal

Credit:  BBC News | 5 February 2013 | www.bbc.co.uk ~~

A public inquiry is to be held after plans for a wind farm in Somerset were rejected.

Sedgemoor District Council voted against the scheme which would have seen four 120m-high (393ft) turbines built on the Somerset Levels.

An independent inspector will examine the decision to reject plans for the turbines, access tracks and an electricity sub-station.

Developer Next Generation lodged the appeal which has led to the inquiry.

Officers recommended the application for approval because it “would not significantly undermine the character or appearance of the local landscape” but this was rejected by councillors in April.

Hundreds of residents fought a campaign against both applications on the grounds the turbines would be too high and too close to homes.

The inquiry is due to take place between 19 and 22 February at The Princess Theatre in Burnham on Sea and on 7 March at Bridgwater Town Hall.
